See

San Fruttuoso by boat

40 minutes from the door

April to October

The abbey of San Fruttuoso in its cove, the ferry arriving

The abbey of San Fruttuoso sits in a cove that no road reaches. In season the ferry leaves from the harbour about once an hour; the crossing takes twenty five minutes, and the abbey appears all at once as the boat rounds the point. Buy a return ticket at the kiosk on the quay.

See the abbey, then swim from the pebble beach in front of it. There is one restaurant and a bar, and both close mid afternoon in spring and autumn, so eat early or bring focaccia.

If the sea is calm and the day is long, walk back over the headland instead. The path is steep and takes about two and a half hours, and the last ferry is around six. We are happy to check the timetable for you.
